i'm a strong believer in public education and for our education system t. does need properly funded. given, that it's surprising the district is deliberately walking away from state money by not ed keg transitional kindergarten children. the number of children who were in the mix in january were 400. that number today dropped to 190. a very rough calculation said a district lost over a million in state funning. just a.d.a. doesn't take into account english language learner funds or extra funding that come when's you enroll 200 children. that number might increase any more. district is asking for funds from the city. i'm not about to say the city shouldn't do that because i think the district needs the funds. i did want to point ut back drop is the district has for some reason chosen not to educate children and chosen to walk away from money at the same time. it's shocking to me they would be standing here asking for money with this cavalier disregard for both educating children and funds they could be getting from the state of california if they chose to ed

so, it's something that if you wanted to look specifically at education, you could look at the education recommendations and see what was done or not done. we created subcommittees within that and the subcommittees each came up with their own goals. and, so, the education subcommittee, i'll just tell you really quickly, they wanted more academic support funding. they wanted more round credit recovery, develop an outreach database around academicses and education to really look at not just what the city funds, but what else is out there, what are the resources that could be availed to folks. and then there are some other ones that again, you can look at those and see what that looks like. this summer they started a human rights commission initiated a brown bag series. again, understanding that it's not just about the school district, it's not just about home, but the importance of networking and making connections and having a context. when we start talking to people about the importance of school and education, if we have generations of folks who have maybe not graduated from high school

we're sort of not utilizing the education system are just the education system in many opportunities to get physically involved. you are right to say on means of assessing capabilities, but when in fact they don't resonate well with what one does in a society or how one participates. creating means for democracy are useful. for this program you have to read a statement. what i wrote about his many ways the way we get people to vote are somewhat antiquated or anachronistic. you know, we go to a poll, you know, high school, what have you, one day a week where you don't get off of work, don't get off of school. this stands in contrast with the array of other tasks retaken would pay her taxes online. we don't utilize the same tools for arguably the most thing in democracy. to me it to me it seemed weird to get people physically involved are engaged and that is kind of bread-and-butter. but on the other hand, we have to use and exercise the tools available to us. we talk about social media, that's true, but the basic things that the internet, which reaches some pain like 70% of americans.
